Artist profile

Emiliano Di Cavalcanti

Emiliano Di Cavalcanti (1897–1976) was a central figure in Brazilian Modernism and a primary organizer of the historic 1922 Week of Modern Art in São Paulo. Synthesizing European avant-garde influences like Cubism and Expressionism with distinctly national themes, his work celebrated Brazil's cultural and racial diversity through sensual figurative portraits, carnival scenes, and depictions of urban and coastal life. His legacy remains foundational to Latin American modern art history.
