Artist profile
Pacita Abad
Pacita Abad was a pioneering Filipina artist known for her signature 'trapunto' technique—stitching and padding painted canvases to create three-dimensional, heavily textured textile works. Over a career spanning three decades across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and North America, her vibrant art addressed political oppression, immigration, socio-economic injustice, and global indigenous traditions. A major retrospective organized by the Walker Art Center traveled widely across North America from 2023 to 2025.
